What Is Gong? What the Gong Software Does, How It Records Calls and What It Costs (2026)

Gong is software for sales teams. It records sales calls and meetings, transcribes and analyses them, and uses what it learns for coaching, deal reviews and forecasting. Gong now calls the whole product the “Revenue AI OS”: call analysis plus Gong Forecast, Gong Engage (outreach), Gong Enable and AI agents.

From Gong’s company page and help center, buyer reports on G2 and Capterra, and our own Gong guides, checked in October 2026. Company figures are Gong’s own claims. We make Realtimer, which works differently.

What Gong does

Gong captures customer conversations (video calls, phone calls and e-mail) and turns them into data a sales organization can use. Managers review calls and coach reps; leaders see deal risk and forecasts; reps get summaries and suggested next steps. Most of this happens after the call.

Who makes Gong

Gong was co-founded by Amit Bendov (CEO, previously CEO of Sisense) and Eilon Reshef (Chief Product Officer, one of the founders of Webcollage). Its company page says it started with seed funding in 2015, reached 1,000 customers in 2020 and now has more than 5,000. It lists offices in San Francisco, Lehi, Chicago, New York, Austin, Singapore, Tel Aviv and Dublin.

How Gong records calls

Usually with a bot. The Gong Recorder joins Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Webex as a participant and shows up in the attendee list. On Zoom only, an admin can set up native recording: Zoom records in the cloud and Gong collects the file afterwards, with no bot in the call.

The Gong app for Zoom is a separate piece. It runs inside the Zoom meeting and shows the rep notes and insights during the call, but only on calls that are recorded in Zoom. Details in does Gong join calls as a bot.

What Gong costs

Gong doesn’t publish prices. Buyer reports describe a licence per user, a yearly platform fee, a one-time onboarding fee and optional add-ons; for a team of ten, the first year comes to roughly $28,000 to $34,000. The breakdown is in Gong pricing.

What users say about Gong

Ratings are high: about 4.7 to 4.8 out of 5 on G2 and Capterra. The recurring complaint is cost (platform fees on top of seats, price rises at renewal, unused seats) rather than the product itself. A recorder in the call is visible to buyers, which is why some teams look for ways to record without it.

Who Gong is for, and what to use instead

Gong fits mid-size and large sales organizations that want every call recorded, reviewed and fed into forecasting, and that have someone to run it. For a small team that mainly wants help during the call, without a contract or a bot, the options are different: see Gong alternatives without a bot and Realtimer vs Gong.

Help during the call, without a recorder

Realtimer runs on the rep’s Mac and listens to the call there, so nothing joins the meeting. When the buyer asks about price, a competitor or security, press a key and the answer appears in about a second from your own files, with the source. It doesn’t do forecasting: it covers the live help, not the rest of Gong. Realtimer for sales →
